One of the most important elements of living in Edina for our residents is maintaining and expanding the quality of our park and rec system.
In 2015 we had the following accomplishments:
Phase 4 of the Promenade between Centennial Lakes and Hazelton Rd. It is a beautiful segment of the Promenade with a rock strewn brook, a pond and enhanced landscaping. Centennial Lakes is our most beloved park, bein used by up to 15,000 people each day in the summertime.
Braemar Golf Course
We completed the driving range remodeling at Braemar Golf Course and created a new Par 3 golf course, both of which will be available for use by approximately mid summer, 2016. The driving range has been our most productive source of revenue for golf operations and now we are more than doubling its capacity with the ability to give golfers access to high quality turf on a consistent basis.
If you have not been over to Pamela Park recently, take the time to drive over and see a facility that has finally realized its potential as a community asset. There are new fields and walking paths plus a wonderful new park building that maintains the architectural integrity of other neighborhood park buildings in our system.
Nine Mile Creek Regional Recreational Trail
We broke ground this summer on an asset that when completed in 2017, will be a community amenity unlike any we have seen for many years. When completed, Edina will no longer be the gap in the regional trail system and our residents will be able to walk or bike between Richfield and Hopkins on a trail sytem which will largely be off road qnd thus very safe for families to use together.
Master Plan for Parks
Work was completed by the dedicated members of our Park Board on a Master Plan for our Park System which will be an excellent guide to future work in our system.
We started negotiations with the cities of Minneapolis which owns the 14 acre Weber Woods site in the Morningside neighborhood, and Saint Louis Park in 2015 but that negotiation is not yet completed.
